Current Activities: The total estimated acreage for the fire is 10,593 acres. An additional 150 acres burned at Sun River and Route Creek confluence. Yesterday’s winds kept the fire active especially along the north east flank of the fire. The south end of the fire along mature timber has two smokes. Sunny weather with southwest winds continues. Smoke will likely be visible from the north end. A Type 4 command continues for the Red Shale Fire. Fire personnel at Gates Park and Beartop Lookout are monitoring current activities. The Type 3 helicopter left Choteau airport to assist fire personnel in other areas and will return if Red Shale Fire activity warrants. Two smoke monitors are in service to monitor this region: one at Ear Mountain and one in Augusta.
