Current Activities: The Red Shale Fire acreage remains at 9,342 acres. Hot spots and fire activity continue on the north end, south west of Rabbit Butte and minimal smoke from Ray and Red Shale Creeks. Warmer and dryer weather is forecasted for the next several days, and is expected to increase fire activity and smoke. The Gates Park remote area weather station (RAW) reports no precipitation, but night time relative humidities continue to recover to 95%. The Red Shale Fire remains as a Type 4 command. Fire personnel at Gates Park along with Beartop Lookout are monitoring current activities. The Type 3 helicopter is currently stationed at the Choteau Airport to assist fire personnel if needed. Two smoke monitors are in service to monitor this region: one at Ear Mountain and one in Augusta.
